Fracture Liaison Service provision

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust did not have the information requested.

Dear The Christie NHS Foundation Trust,

The Royal Osteoporosis Society is undertaking a Freedom of Information Act (FOI) request of all Trusts, Health Boards and Health and Social Care Trusts, with the aim of assessing the number of Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) that exist across the UK and the delivery of these services.

Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) systematically identify people aged 50 and older who have had a 'fragility fracture', with the aim of reducing their risk of further fractures.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Osteoporosis and Bone Health have agreed to conduct an Inquiry into access to Fracture Liaison Services (FLS) across England. To support the early work of the group, Parliamentarians have asked for a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to be circulated to all commissioners and service providers in England to better understand current FLS provision and levels of variation across the country.

Data will be used to identify how we can target future resources to ensure that all patients at risk of secondary fragility fractures and osteoporosis have access to and are referred to a FLS for further bone health assessment.

We really appreciate your help with this, especially as we understand the pressures that healthcare services are currently experiencing. Please pass the questions below on to your Fracture Liaison Service or if this is not possible, please pass on to your osteoporosis clinical lead or musculo-skeletal lead for them to complete.

We ask that you please indicate your answer by marking with an “X” next to any answers that apply or by deleting all answers that do not apply. Please avoid answering by italics, underlining or bold, as these do not show up when we process your response.

Yours faithfully,

Craig Jones, Chief Executive, Royal Osteoporosis Society
