Fracking in the Vale of Glamorgan

Ian Perry made this Freedom of Information request to Natural Resources Body for Wales

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Natural Resources Body for Wales,

A permit has been granted by NRW for Coastal Oil and Gas Limited to exploratory drill for oil and gas in a field owned by local Conservative councillor Rhodri Traherne in Dyffryn/St Nicholas in the Vale of Glamorgan - despite a Welsh Government policy against removing what is under us...

There is a spring in the field where the drilling will take place. Is Natural Resources Wales certain that this watercourse will be unaffected by the drilling? Please provide documents that demonstrate that this spring has been taken into consideration when making the decision to grant a permit.

Lubricants will be required by the drill. What does NRW know about these lubricants, and where do they go after drilling has taken place? What percentage and volume will not be removed from the site?

The permit does not allow for "fracking". Please would you describe what fracking would entail, and what the permit granted to Coastal Oil and Gas allows. How is this different to fracking?

How will any oil and gas found under Dyffryn be brought to the surface for testing?

Are you aware of the many errors and untruths in the planing application to the Vale of Glamorgan? Clearly the councillors did not read the application because the number of errors, including location maps, demonstrated a lack of professionalism, care and regard for proper process by Coastal Oil and Gas.

Please would you provide all the documentation you have in regards to this site - with any errors you found in the application marked.

Yours faithfully,

Ian Perry
