Foster Care Statistics by Council Area for Scotland

Please treat the following request as a Freedom of Information request. I am looking to obtain figures and facts surrounding the foster care sector. Please see the questions below.

1. How many people have registered to become a foster carer in the last 3 years? and of this number, how many have quit within 2 years of being registered?

2. What is the average annual cost per young person in residential care of looking after them in residential placements in the council area, compared with outside the council area? What is the average annual cost per young person in residential care of looking after them in placements in the council area, compared with outside the council area?

3. How many children that are looked after by the council and in residential care placements in the council area are in accommodation provided by third-party providers? Please provide the address of each facility, the name of each third-party provider, the total amount paid to each provider and the number of young people placed with each provider.

4. How many children that are looked after by the council and in residential care placements outside the council area are in accommodation provided by third-party providers? Please provide the address of each facility, the name of each third-party provider, the total amount paid to each provider and the number of young people placed with each provider.

Thank you for your enquiry which was given the above reference number. 
Apologies for the delay in responding.

9 recruited. 

1 de-registered. 

 

2. What is the average annual cost per young person in residential care of
looking after them in residential placements in the council area, compared
with outside the council area?

There are no ‘residential placements’ within the council area. 

 

What is the average annual cost per young person in residential care of
looking after them in placements in the council area, compared with
outside the council area?

Council operated children’s house costs provided for 2021/22 (2022/23
costs not available) Sundrum View Childrens House, Coylton - £3,894/week;
Cunningham Place Childrens House, Ayr - £4,625/week.  All external
contracts are managed by Scotland Excel. 

 

3. How many children that are looked after by the council and in
residential care placements in the council area are in accommodation
provided by third-party providers?

None

 

Please provide the address of each facility, the name of each third-party
provider, the total amount paid to each provider and the number of young
people placed with each provider.

N/A

 

4. How many children that are looked after by the council and in
residential care placements outside the council area are in accommodation
provided by third-party providers?

11 children/young people (as at 19/09/2023)

This information is available online by carrying out a search of the named
premises.

 

The name of each third-party provider.

Third party providers: Community Connections Group; Kibble; Moorhouse Care
& Education Services; Common Threads; NAS Services Ltd; St Phillips
Residential Care & Education Services

 

The total amount paid to each provider and the number of young people
placed with each provider.

The amount paid to each provider will not be released in to the public
domain as this information is considered to be commercially sensitive. 
The information is exempt from disclosure under Section 33(1)(b) of the
Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2004.

 

The council considers that releasing this information is likely to affect
best value when looking to house future young people with third party
providers.

 

 

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request you can ask for
a review.  A request for a review must be submitted within 40 working days
