Dear Shetland Islands Council,

1) Please could you tell me your 2020-21 weekly foster care allowances for all age bands, NOT including any fee/reward element for foster carers.

2) Please detail any allowances that ALL foster carers can claim in addition to their weekly allowance, e.g. holiday allowance or mileage.

3) Please detail your current fee/reward structure for foster carers (NB this is different to allowances for the child). Please include:
i) Details of the levels/bands for carers and how much you pay per week at each level/band.
ii) The number of foster carers on each level/band, including those that receive no fee on top of the child’s allowance.

4) Please could you tell me your 2020-21 weekly allowances for former foster carers looking after young people in 16+/18+ Continuing Care arrangements, broken down by year 1, year 2, and year 3+ if necessary.

5) Please detail your current fee/reward structure for former foster carers looking after young people in 16+/18+ Continuing Care arrangements. Please include:

i) Details of the levels/bands and how much you pay per week at each level/band.
ii) The number of former foster carers on each level/band, including those that receive no fee on top of the child’s allowance.

Please find below our response to your recent Freedom of Information
request.

 

1)      Please could you tell me your 2020-21 weekly foster care
allowances for all age bands, NOT including any fee/reward element for
foster carers..

a.       Age band 0-4 years = £ 145.00 per week, 5-10 years = £ 165.17,
11-15 years = £ 205.62, 16+years = £ 250.14

               

2)      Please detail any allowances that ALL foster carers can claim in
addition to their weekly allowance, e.g. holiday allowance or mileage.

a.       Summer holiday = 2 weeks allowance, Christmas = 1 week allowance,
Child's birthday = 1 week allowance

Mileage = £ 0.351 per mile

 

3)      Please detail your current fee/reward structure for foster carers
(NB this is different to allowances for the child). Please include:

a.       i) Details of the levels/bands for carers and how much you pay
per week at each level/band

Professional fee is depending on work qualifications and availability, all
rates include Island Allowance

                Level 1  foster carer working up to 20 hrs in other job =
£ 250.22 weekly

                Level 2  foster carer work up to 10 hrs in other job = £
397.41 weekly

                Level 3  foster carer unqualified, no other job = £ 544.59
weekly

                Level 3  foster carer qualified, no other job = £ 599.17
weekly

ii) The number of foster carers on each level/band, including those that
receive no fee on top of the child’s allowance.

                Total number of foster carer households = 16

                Number of fee-paid foster carer = 11

                Number of other foster carer = 5

               

4)      Please could you tell me your 2020-21 weekly allowances for former
foster carers looking after young people in 16+/18+ Continuing Care
arrangements, broken down by year 1, year 2, and year 3+ if necessary.

a.       Weekly allowance for all 16+ young people in foster care = £
250.14

 

5)      Please detail your current fee/reward structure for former foster
carers looking after young people in 16+/18+ Continuing Care arrangements.
Please include:

i) Details of the levels/bands and how much you pay per week at each
level/band.

ii) The number of former foster carers on each level/band, including those
that receive no fee on top of the child’s allowance.

a.       N/A.  Shetland Islands Council don't have a fee/reward structure
for former foster carers.

decisions in relation to your request, by submitting a formal appeal. The
