Fossil Fuel Funding 22/23
Dear Imperial College London,
I'm writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act (2000) to ask that you please disclose to me, following a previously sent request from this address regarding fossil fuel funding from 2017-2021/22, that you please complete the same search for a much more limited amount of information exclusively covering the current calendar year (22/23).
I have sent this request before, and was told that the university would not release until the academic year was complete, which it now is. The university has expressed that, while it could not provide the information before, it is "transparent about its sources of funding". So far this has not been the case, so I am now resubmitting this request in the hopes that it will be answered.
The companies I'm looking for are all oil, gas, and coal companies.
This would include grants, investments, research agreements, gifts, sponsorship, hospitality, and donations from the following companies please:
BP, Shell, Total, Equinor (Statoil), Eni, Chevron, Exxon (ExxonMobil), ConocoPhilip (Conoco), BHP Group, Enbridge, Chesapeake Energy, Petrofac, Kellas Midstream, Kuwait Petroleum, OEUK, Dong Energy, Cheniere, Premtech, Aker BP, Glencore, Petronas, Saudi Aramco, Petro-Canada, E&P, OMV, Inpex, Ithaca Energy, Enquest, Woodside, Chrysaor, China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (SINOPEC), Hewett Petroleum, Institute of Gas and technology, Balmoral Offshore, Airpac Bukom, Abbot Group, Capricorn Energy, Enterprise Oil, Melrose Resources, Rovotics, Senergy, Scottish Power, Trident, Zenocean, Schlumberger, Stena Drilling, Anglo-American, Tokyo Gas.
A simple spreadsheet format will be fine for the purposes of this request.
Yours faithfully,
Max Colbert
Dear Max Colbert,
Thank you for your email. I believe the time-period referred to in previous correspondence was the College financial year, not academic year. The financial year for 2022/23 is complete at the end of this month.
I have recently had correspondence from another requester also seeking information on this topic for the last financial year. I have agreed with that requester that I record a new FOI request from that requester on 8 August asking for the 2022/23 information. I suggest that I do the same with your request. What I will do in fact is treat these as one request for information and publish the response on our website. I have combined the lists of companies specified in each request and will ask my colleagues to search using the list of companies below. I trust this is acceptable to you as the information provided will be more exhaustive as it is a longer list. We will send an acknowledgement on 8 August.
Please confirm that you are happy with the suggested approach.
