Dear Jessica

Further to your request of 29 April 2019, which I have treated as a
Freedom of Information request, please find below our response to the
information that you requested.

Query:

 1. Causes for forest fires in the years 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015
 2. Number of forest fires in the years 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015
caused by disposable BBQs
 3. How many logged forest fires in the years 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015
 4. How much spent tackling forest fires in the years 2019, 2018, 2017,
2016, 2015

Response:

Please see attached a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet called “FOI 19 31 Forest
fires”, which details the number of forest fires by cause from 2015 to
date.

We do not have a record of any incidents for which the source of ignition
has been recorded as being a BBQ. Where the source of the fire is shown as
“not recorded”, these incidents relate to secondary fires, where this
level of detail is not recorded.

We do not hold information relating to the cost of each incident. We can
only advise that on average a crew of five attending an incident for one
hour, 10 mile round trip would be approximately £125. This is the average
cost associated with either a wholetime crew or a retained crew attending
an incident, including salary costs.

I trust this answers your queries, however, if you are unhappy with the
service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a
complaint or request a review of the decision, you should write to the
Information Management Team, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service,
Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre, Hulse Road, Salisbury, Wiltshire
SP1 3NR within 40 working days of receipt of the original
decision. Alternatively you can email
[1][DWFRS request email].

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint or review, you
may apply directly to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) for a
decision. Generally the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have
exhausted the complaints procedure at the Fire Authority. The ICO can be
contacted at:
