Description of Job
The client is currently completing a feasibility study to identify if any improvements can be made to improve road
safety at the pedestrian crossing on Langsett Road near Forbes Road.
There are major issues with pedestrian safety when crossing Langsett Road. Large numbers of pedestrians
partially cross the carriageway whilst on the red man symbol and wait adjacent to the bollards and the splitter
island for a gap in traffic. This is likely to be a contributing factor to many of the collisions that have taken place,
especially as some of the pedestrians appear to be confused by the layout and can be seen only checking for
traffic in one direction.
An indicative layout has been developed to address the issue (see sketch overleaf), however Amey’s assistance is
required due to the presence of tram tracks and associated infrastructure. The design may well be completely
influenced by these factors.
An inception meeting has already been held with Dave Popple and Howard Saffer. The work is likely to comprise
site visits and provision of background information and advice. The work is to be charged at an hourly rate to a
maximum of £1000.
If possible, a site visit would be preferable on Friday 3 July 2015.
