Footpath at the side of Woodley Primary school, Station Road/Sherwood Road

Sheila Oliver made this Freedom of Information request to Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Stockport Borough Council,

I have been contacted by parents of young children regarding the dangerous state of the footpath at the side of Woodley Primary School. I believe the matter has been reported to local councillors in April 2010. What action, if any, was taken as a result of this matter being raised, as people are telling me the situation is unchanged and they are particularly concerned as winter is here now and there was a problem last year with the ice.

Mr. Agellu, I am more than happy to put you in contact by telephone with the local residents who have raised this issue with me because they are getting nowhere with the Council. If nothing has been done for a good reason, there should be a note somewhere of what that reason is

Yours faithfully,

Sheila

Congratulation Mrs Oliver, SBC are NOT treating this request as VEXATIOUS.I wonder why that is?

Mr Dransfield

Local people have tried and tried to get this sorted out over a long period of time. There is money for the Leader of the Council to stay in a 5 star hotel in Salford - Salford! There is money for senior council officers to stay in luxury hotels and to drive Mini Cooper S Cabriolets, top of the range BMWs and Audi TTs, but there is no money, apparently, to deal with what local people perecieve to be a dangerous footpath around a primary school.

FOI Officer, Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council

Dear FOI Officer,

Yay! So my troublesome questioning gets a result for local people when their appeals to the local councillors since April 2010 fell on deaf ears. Unless, of course, it is pure coincidence that flagging up the matter on this site and the contemporaneous plans for work on the steps coincided.

Yours sincerely,

Sheila Oliver

Cost should not be CONSIDERED BEFORE the works is done on safety groundS. The SBC have the cart before the horse on this particular issue.
They should assign emergency works and THEN assign the cost.
Strikes me the SBC dont take health and safety seriously.
Another example of Tardy H&S ISSUE IS THE REOPENING OF VALE VIEW SCHOOL before THE root cause HAS BEEN PUBLISHED.
