Nicola Young, University of Portsmouth

Dear James,
I refer to your email of 13 February 2019 in which you submitted a request
under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.  Your request relates to
information concerning student attendance.
I am writing to request clarification on your request. The University does
monitor student attendance, however, this was not generally the case prior
to January 2018. Before this date, the University only monitored
attendance where required to do so, for example in the case of Tier 4
student visa holders.
In addition, and in line with our retention policies, we do not hold
detailed information about students for more than six years.
In light of the above, I can advise that it will not be possible for us to
answer your request. I may be able to provide you with information about
student attendance in general from January 2018 onwards. I may also be
able to provide you with information about attendance monitoring for Tier
4 students over a longer period. However, it is not clear to me from your
request whether you would find any of this information helpful.
As you may be aware, the University has 20 working days in which to
respond to your request, however, I do not believe I can proceed until I
hear back from you. Therefore, I will place your request on hold until I
have confirmation of your request. Should you have any queries before
then, however, please feel free to contact me again either by replying to
this email or by telephoning me directly on 02392 843103.
Yours sincerely
Nicola
