Dear Staffordshire County Council,
I am writing this email to make a request for the following information under the Freedom of Information Act.
1. How many times did the council mow roadside verges across the county between the months of March and July this year (2020)?
2. For the same months in 2019 (March - July), how many times did the council mow roadside verges?
3. What was the schedule agreed at the start of the year (2020) for roadside verge cutting?
4. Has the council deviated from this schedule in any way - has more or less cutting than was planned taken place?
By council mowing, I mean when council staff were sent to mow roadside verges. No details of locations are necessary, just the number of times across the county.

Dear Matt Kefford
Thank you for your request for information.
Please find information provided by the relevant service team(s) below.
The frequency of cutting depends on the road classification which could be 1 cut only on Rural Zoned roads, 2 cuts on Rural Priority 2 roads or 3 cuts on Rural Priority 1 roads. On Urban Roads (generally 30mph or below) the County Council adopts a policy in 2020 of 6 cuts per season whereas in 2019 and before it was 8 cuts per season. In addition there are numerous different bodies which undertake grass cutting across the County - District and Borough Councils which often enhance the County policy by subsidising additional cuts, local Parish Councils and finally the contractors employed by the County Council's term highway maintenance contractor Amey.
