Dear Ms Davies

I am writing in response to your request for information dated 4^th July
2017 in which you requested information regarding the number of job
descriptions with Welsh language requirements.

The Wales Audit Office is subject to the Welsh Language standards as set
out in the Compliance Notice issued on the 25^th July 2016 and with effect
from 25^th January 2017 the relevant standards have applied in relation to
the assessment of the need for Welsh language skills for new or vacant
posts and the specification of this when advertising the post.  Roles
advertised since 25^th January 2017 therefore incorporate the level of
Welsh language skills relevant to the role in the job description.

We are in the process of reviewing roles to identify where Welsh language
skills are an essential or desirable requirement with a view to ensuring
that we have sufficient Welsh language capacity across the organisation.
This review is likely to result in roles where there is a single job
description for roles held by multiple role holders, save for the language
element, with Welsh language skills being essential in some cases.

We hold information in relation to existing job descriptions and this is
shown below.  There may be some roles which are held part time and the job
descriptions will apply whether a role is full time or part time.  Please
also note that the information relates to job descriptions and not the
actual number of roles held, i.e., there may be multiple post holders with
the same job description.

1. The number of full-time posts (permanent and fixed term) that are
'Welsh Essential' on the job description.

2. The number of part-time posts (permanent and fixed term) that are
'Welsh Essential' on the job description.

The number of current job descriptions where Welsh language skills are
essential is 3.  There are a further 3 roles where it has been identified
that Welsh language skills are essential and the job descriptions for
these roles will be updated in due course to reflect this.

3. The number of full-time posts (permanent and fixed term) that are
'Welsh Desirable' on the job description.

4. The number of part-time posts (permanent and fixed term) that are
'Welsh Desirable' on the job description.

The number of current job descriptions where Welsh language skills are
desirable is 21.

5. The number of full-time posts (permanent and fixed term) that have no
language skill requirement included on the job description.

6. The number of part-time posts (permanent and fixed term) that have no
language skill requirement included on the job description.

The number of job descriptions where there is currently no Welsh language
skill requirement is 40.

Information in relation to the Auditor General for Wales and the Wales
Audit Office commitment to the Welsh language is available on our website
at [1]http://www.audit.wales/welsh-language

If you have any queries, or questions about my handling of your request,
please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Katherine Drysdale
