FOI request: Number of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller students
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my enquiry as specifically as possible. If however this request is too wide or unclear, I would be grateful if you would contact me as I understand that under the Act, you are required to advise and assist requesters.
I would like to find out the number of people who define their ethnicity as Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (or equivalent) who are accepted to study at the university each academic year. I would also like to discover whether these figures have changed over the past 10 years.
As such, could the following information please be made available:
a) The number of people who define their ethnicity as Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (or equivalent) who applied to study at the university each year for entry in the academic years 2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019.
b) The overall number of people who applied to study at the university each year for entry in the academic years 2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019. I would like these figures broken down by ethnicity.
c) The number of people who define their ethnicity as Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (or equivalent) who were accepted to study at the university each year for entry in the academic years 2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019.
d) b) The overall number of people accepted to study at the university each year for entry in the academic years 2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019. I would like these figures broken down by ethnicity.
Where possible, I would like all application/ acceptance figures to be broken down by undergraduate/ postgraduate study.
I understand that under the Act, I should be entitled to a response within 20 working days. I would be grateful if you would confirm in writing that you have received this request.
Yours faithfully,
Jasmin Gray

Dear Jasmin,
I hope this email finds you well.
I write to inform you that we are in the process of compiling the
information to your FOI request.
We have had a really difficult period during this summer while trying to
cope with the effects of the fire we suffered in July and it is taking us
a while to meet all deadlines such as this one. We will not be able to
provide the information by tomorrow as advised but we will endeavour to do
so as soon as we can.
In the meantime I wish to direct you to our published information that can
be found here :
[1]http://www.gsa.ac.uk/about-gsa/key-infor...
which contains most of what we would provide you anyway as we don’t
collect very detailed statistics as required by your request.
I will be in touch as soon as possible with the full response to your
request.
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any
queries to the above.
Kind regards,
Virginia

Dear Jasmin,
Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in responding to your FOI
request. The planning and delivery of this session’s student enrolment -
which took place last week - combined with organisational priorities
surrounding the start of the new academic session have unfortunately
served to delay our response. However, please be aware that we are looking
into your request and hope to provide the information requested in your
email below as soon as possible.
Yours sincerely,
John
