FOI request: Number of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller students
To whom it may concern,
I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my enquiry as specifically as possible. If however this request is too wide or unclear, I would be grateful if you would contact me as I understand that under the Act, you are required to advise and assist requesters.
I would like to find out the number of people who define their ethnicity as Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (or equivalent) who are accepted to study at the university each academic year. I would also like to discover whether these figures have changed over the past 10 years.
As such, could the following information please be made available:
a) The number of people who define their ethnicity as Gypsy, Roma and Traveller (or equivalent) who applied to study at the university each year for entry in the academic years 2008/2009, 2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2011/2012, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019.

Dear Basia,
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request.
Please see the spreadsheets attached for the figures that you requested.
The figures by Ethnic Group across the Academic Years 2008 to 2018 is the
number of students registered at the start of a presentation and broken
down by Undergraduate and Postgraduate.
Please note that The Open University is the largest university in the UK,
operating across all four Nations with a total student population of
170,000. It is the only university which operates a wholly “open access”
policy, allowing anyone to begin study.
Please note that we have not supplied data the 18/19 academic year as
registration has not yet completed.
I hope you find this information useful, and should you have any further
questions please contact this office or our Media Relations team (email
[1][email address]).
Regards
Mel
