FOI Request for records of complaints brought to BHCC by renters against their landlords

Dear Brighton and Hove City Council,

I am emailing to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000:

1 a) From 01/01/2013 to 08/02/2023, How many complaints has Brighton and Hove City Council recorded of private renters requesting formal action from the council against their landlords or letting agents?

1 b) How many of these complaints on record resulted in the council pursuing formal legal action against the landlords in question, including civil actions and prosecutions?

1 c) How many of these legal actions were resolved in favour of the complainant?

2) A list of housing officers with the authority to assess complaints and requests for legal action made to the council by private renters against their landlord and/or letting agents, including those with final decision-making authority over whether or not to pursue formal action against the complainants landlords in each case.

team(s) for them to collate the information you have requested, should it
be held by us.

•             Once we have received an approved response back from the
relevant Council team(s), we will send this to you.

o             Please note that your response will be sent to you in letter
form, as an email attachment.

o             An anonymized version of the your response may be published
on the Council’s Disclosure Log.

When you can expect to receive a response to your FOI request

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental
Information Regulations 2004, the Council has a legal obligation to
respond to a valid request no later than 20 working days following the
date of receipt.  In certain circumstances, this 20 working day limit can
be extended.
