Scottish Teachers for Permanence

Dear Clackmannanshire Council,

1. Use of Probationers in Vacant Positions:
"For each year between 2018 and 2024, how many teaching roles were filled by probationer teachers (through the Teacher Induction Scheme)? Please provide details on the following:
a) The number of probationers placed in roles that were previously filled by permanent or temporary teachers.
b) The number of vacancies that were filled by probationers where the council would have otherwise had to employ a permanent or temporary teacher funded directly by the council.
c) The duration of these placements and whether probationers were placed in roles that extended beyond their probation year."

2. Cost-Saving Measures Involving Probationers:
"Has the local authority conducted any assessment or analysis on the cost savings associated with employing probationers through the TIS scheme instead of recruiting temporary or permanent teachers? If such assessments exist, please provide copies of the findings."

3. Vacancy Advertisements and TIS Placements:
"For the period from 2017 to 2024, how many teaching vacancies were advertised but subsequently filled by TIS probationers without additional recruitment? Can you specify if any of these vacancies were filled on a temporary or permanent basis following the probationer’s placement?"

Yours faithfully,
James Orr
