Dear Stoke on Trent City Council,
I am writing to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
Q. 1. i.) Please state the local authority’s expenditure (including use of Government grants) on clearing the arrears of tenants in the following financial years.
a. 2017/2018
b. 2018/2019
c. 2019/2020
d. 2020/2021
e. 2021/2022
ii.) For each of the above years, please provide a breakdown of expenditure on clearing the arrears of council housing tenants, housing association tenants and private rental sector tenants.
Q. 2. i.) Please state the local authority’s expenditure (including use of Government grants) on discretionary housing payments to assist ongoing renting costs of tenants in the following years.
a. 2017/2018
b. 2018/2019

ii.) For each of the above years, please provide a breakdown of expenditure on assisting the ongoing renting costs of council housing tenants, housing association tenants and private rental sector tenants.

expenditure of council housing tenants, housing association tenants and
private rental sector tenants. Your request was received by the

The information supplied may be used for domestic or journalistic
purposes. Its use for commercial gain including issuing to the public,

Response: When any award of a DHP is made, which could be as a one-off
payment which may be used to clear off all or part of any tenant arrears.
We may also award a weekly payment that could be backdated to assist with
any arrears or shortfall in rent ongoing forward.
Unfortunately, the Benefit Services team and our System do not hold the
DHP award data in such specific detail, so we are unable to provide this
information.
Q. 2. i.) Please state the local authority’s expenditure (including use
of Government grants) on discretionary housing payments to assist ongoing
renting costs of tenants in the following years.
a. 2017/2018 - £688,620.12
b. 2018/2019 - £506,923.16
c. 2019/2020 - £409,781.12
d. 2020/2021 - £413,871.88
e. 2021/2022 - £375,701.62
ii.) For each of the above years, please provide a breakdown of
expenditure on assisting the ongoing renting costs of council housing
tenants, housing association tenants and private rental sector tenants.
Response: The breakdown of the expenditure for each given year in to
private sector, housing associations or council tenants is not available
as were unable to separate the types based on the DHP award data held.
