Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

Dear Ms R

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REF: 2009-754

I am responding to your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000,
which we received on 9 December 2009 for information held by the Council.
You requested:

1. How many people in RBKC have requested provision of but not received
wheelchairs/other mobility aids since January 1st 2000 and December 9th
2009?

2. How many disabled people are housebound and currently waiting for
mobility aids?

The Council does not hold this information. Wheelchairs are not loaned via
Social Services. They are health provision and the local wheelchair
service contact details are:

Central London Wheelchair Service
NHS Central London Community Healthcare
Health @ the Stowe

We also do not routinely issue mobility aids, they would be assessed for
via the Community Rehabilitation Service Physiotherapists:

Kensington and Chelsea Rehabilitation Services
Nightingale
St Charles Hospital
Exmoor Street

Dear Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea,

I believe social services ought to be holding this information for them to share for the sake of disabled families and transparency and due to the gravity of this request, I request an internal reviews as I cannot understand how social work departments do not have this information> How can they not?

Yours faithfully,

Liz R

Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

Dear Ms Robilliard

You requested a review of the Council's previous decision which was issued
to you on the 11 January. In this you requested information about
wheelchairs and mobility aids.

The Council replied in an email on 11 January.

I have reviewed this request, and the Council's made it clear that it does
not hold the information on wheelchairs as the provision of wheelchairs is
not a local government responsibility.

I do not have information on your second question either.

This review has therefore not changed the original decision of the
Council.

If you wish to take the matter further, you have a right of appeal to the
Information Commissioner.
