FOI - Gender Pay Gap

The request was partially successful.

Dear British Broadcasting Corporation,

I am writing to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act about gender pay scales within the British Broadcasting Corporation.

1) More specifically, can you provide the medium pay for female and male employees of the BBC for years:

- 2016
- 2015
- 2014

2) Additionally, I would also like the request the number of female employees employed in senior positions in the BBC (>=£75,000 p/a)

3) I require the same information in point 2 for male staff.

4) Finally, can you list the titles/positions of the staff mentioned.

I would like this information in electronic format, preferably as CSV files.

If my request is denied in whole or in part, I ask that you justify all deletions by reference to specific exemptions of the act.

Please let me know you have received this.

If there are any problems, or you need more information please get in touch.

Yours faithfully,

Johnathan Kelly

The link to "full details of all staff earning over £150k" is not about all staff but so-called "disclosable staff", that is, executives on Senior Manager grades. There are others who are not "disclosable", I suspect too many for them to be identifiable by job title, contrary to what the BBC claims.

The requester might be interested in FoI RFI20170487, which is awaiting response at present. And also in my annual FoI about the pay on grade 11, the (largely fictitious) ceiling of which is about £75K.

Reading the BBC reply to the request is less than ingenious as the BBC has already admitted it is withlding 'higher' saleries than £150,000 into exclusive BBC Limited companies that are not subject to FOI requests.

'The BBC has a single grade structure. Pay differences can arise for a number of reasons, such as
geographical location, conditioned hours, the application of al owances, and different job responsibilities.

While we continue to work to eliminate any residual gender pay gap, we note that the differences across
the BBC for people doing similar jobs have narrowed are better than the national averages:
(https://www.gov.uk/government/news/uk-ge...). Along with other public bodies, the BBC will be
legal y required to report on the gender pay gap by April 2018.

As the BBC are well aware, they can disclose as little as possible (even using Charitiable status to not disclose payments).
I [quote]:
'Please note that, as set out in section 6(1)(b)(i ) of the FOI Act, our subsidiaries (including BBC Studios &
Post Production Ltd, UKTV, BBC Global News Ltd and BBC Worldwide Ltd), as well as the charities BBC
Media Action and BBC Children in Need, are not subject to the Act, therefore information for their
personnel is not included in the figures quoted above'

[end quote].

So basically we will never know exactly - but Men will always run th BBC and keep their saleries (hidden) and well above the already generous PAYE that Woman presenters enjoy. The generous Pension schemes are also Men only and (if we are to believe the free press) TOXIC and run into Millions which is why they rely on the TV tax so much.
