FOI: Fires at waste centres / refuse vehicles

The request was successful.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Under Freedom of Information, I would be grateful if you could assist with the following enquiry. We are interested in the number of fires in refuse vehicles and at waste and recycling centres. I appreciate you may not have a specific code for this, and if not, it would be great if you could use a free text search for any terms you might think would capture this (e.g. waste centre, recycling centre, rubbish truck, refuse vehicle). It would be great to have the data split by waste facilities and refuse vehicles, and broken down by the years 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Many thanks,

C D Johnson

Dear C D Johnson,

FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000 - INFORMATION REQUEST

REF: 1744 - Fires at waste centres / refuse vehicles

Your request for information has now been considered and I am pleased to
provide you with the following information.

Below are the total number of fire incidents that were recorded in the
calendar years where the property type was either "refuse/rubbish tip" or
"recycling":

2020 = 5

2021 = 7

2022 = 26

We do not have any categories on our system that record whether the fire
was in a refuse/rubbish vehicle. Upon searching the general notes (free
text field) there is only one incident during this 3 year period and was
in 2021.

If you are unhappy with the way your request for information has been
handled, you can request a review by contacting the Freedom of Information
Officer at the address below.

If you remain dissatisfied with the handling of your request or complaint,
you have the right of appeal to the Information Commissioner at: The
Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow,
Cheshire, SK9 5AF, Telephone: 0303 123 1113, Website: [1]www.ico.org.uk.

Yours sincerely,
