-      Provisions for the elderly and disabled to access the City by bus
and taxi preferably to reach the back of Fenwick in Blackett St.

Part of our proposals include changing the way in which we use our
streets. We have previously spoken to those who access the city via these
modes of transport, and these conversations will continue as we look to
progress our proposals.  We are investigating a number of possible options
to help people with mobility issues around the city.

Engagement on the proposals has taken place previously, and we have
amended the proposals based on comments received from various
stakeholders. Future consultation will take place in the coming weeks as
part of a formal Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) advertisement, through
which we will continue to discuss the plans and collect feedback.

-      Plans for the Grainger Market.

The market, like the rest of the city centre, is ready to be awakened. We
want to strengthen its reputation as the thriving hub in the city centre
for independent local businesses, produce and food culture, whilst still
retaining its charm, sitting proudly in its Grade 1 listed building.

Traders and key stakeholders are integral to help shape the future of the
market. We have already begun conversations with some traders about what
potential plans may look like. In the coming weeks we will be ensuring
that all traders have the opportunity to have their say on what physical
improvements would be beneficial to the market and allow the architecture
and heritage of this treasured iconic building to shine again.

Any plans would protect and improve the market’s wealth of heritage, and
we are considering creative ways to enhance the entrances, so the market
is more visible and inviting to people passing by. Other improvements may
include upgrading signage and maps to better promote the businesses in the
market, repairing or replacing flooring and external lighting and the
installation of good quality seating.

We are looking at funding streams and other investment to bring our
much-loved Grainger Market in line with other successful markets in the
UK, putting it on a stable financial footing and guaranteeing its future
for the next 20 years. The council has recently submitted a bid to the
Government’s Levelling Up Fund, to help achieve our vision for the city
centre and the Grainger Market. There will also be other funding streams
that can be applied for going forward.

-              The cost of the Transformation.

                                £50m, including transport changes.

-              The funding source of the Transformation.

The sources of funding secured to date
include;

An initial £10.5million secured from the
North East LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership) as part of the government’s
Getting Building Fund and Department for Transport’s Active Travel Fund
will fund the first phase of the programme. This funding will include
changes to Grey Street, Northumberland Street, Ridley Place and Saville
Row.

A further £10.4m secured from the DfT’s Transforming Cities Funding for
the necessary transport changes to facilitate the transformation,
including improvements to key junctions around the bus loop.

Thank you

The CCTP Team
