FOI: Aires, Motorhomes and camping on council land

We're waiting for Jennifer Jones to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Perth and Kinross Council,

Please send me information about the officer/councillors decision making process regarding policy for introducing temporary camping facilities - i.e. water and toilets in wild camping hot spots and aires.

Please send me the council's policy on wild camping, camper vans, caravans and other vehicles over the last five years

I am also looking for a timeline and a breakdown of costs associated with removing no parking signs from lay-bys and establishing aires (costs for cleansing, wardens, barriers etc)

Please can this include any advice given from external bodies such as CAMPRA, Caravan Club and other motorhome associations.

Please do send me an acknowledgment of this freedom of information request, and I look forward to receiving the information within 20 working days.

Yours faithfully,

Jennifer Jones

Dear J Jones,

Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Request for Information – Temporary Camping Facilities

I refer to your request for information dated 11 August 2022.

The information you requested was:-

 1. Please send me information about the officer/councillors decision
making process regarding policy for introducing temporary camping
facilities - i.e. water and toilets in wild camping hot spots and
aires.

 2. Please send me the council's policy on wild camping, camper vans,
caravans and other vehicles over the last five years

 3. I am also looking for a timeline and a breakdown of costs associated
with removing no parking signs from lay-bys and establishing aires
(costs for cleansing, wardens, barriers etc)

 4. Please can this include any advice given from external bodies such as
CAMPRA, Caravan Club and other motorhome associations.

Response

Relative to the above, I have been advised of the following.

 1. The Council haven’t introduced any temporary camping facilities or a
policy for them.  Temporary toilets have been provided in areas
considered as visitor ‘hotspots’ and where other such facilities don’t
exist.  This was facilitated through an allocation of funding during
the overall Council budget setting process

 2. No policy as such, we apply the Scottish Outdoor Access Code for wild
camping and don’t have a policy on caravans or camper vans
specifically

 3. The council have not removed any no parking signs or created Aires

 4. We have had discussions with CAMPA on specific issues and projects but
not the ones referred to above.

You have a right to request a review of the Council’s decision. Click
[1]here to view a copy of our information leaflet which explains how to do
this. If you remain dissatisfied after the Council has carried out its
review, you can appeal [2]online to the Scottish Information Commissioner

Should you require any further explanation or assistance please do not
hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

Dear J Jones,

Further to your follow up query on this FOI ATI 2022 08 11 003, I can advise the following.

• We have liaised closely with CAMPA when scoping and developing our strategic network of waste disposal points at Broxden Park& Ride, Pitlochry tbc, Grandtully Station and Aberfeldy Car Park. We’ve taken advice from them, Scottish Water and SEPA as identified in the Campervan and motorhome waste disposal guidance.
• We’ve agreed that as soon as these facilities are in place these can be advertised on the CAMPA website, we are not there yet.
• We have worked with them on all our RTIF projects requesting input where appropriate.
• We consulted with CAMPRA on the Overnight Parking Area (OPA) guidance.
