If you are making a request for information under FOI(S)A we will respond

We refer to your request dated 19 September 2017, for information FOI
regarding Treatment in Local Authority Care Homes. 

 

We confirm that the Council holds the information requested.  However, due
to the low numbers involved we are unable to provide the information
broken down by care home, as per Section 381(b) of the Data Protection
Act.  The information provided is therefore for all establishments
requested.

 

Q1.         How many patients were administered medication which was
concealed in their food in 2017 at each of the care homes stated above?

               9 – Residents ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘E’, ‘F’, ‘G’, ‘H’, ‘I’, ‘J’, and
‘K’

 

Q2.         How many patients were administered medication which was
concealed in their drink in 2017 at each of the care homes stated above?

               4 – Residents ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘L’ and ‘M’

 

Q3.         For each case as stipulated in the answers to Q1 and Q2, what
medication was prescribed and in what dosage?

 

               Resident ‘A’ - Folic Acid 5mg

 

               Resident ‘B’ - Allopurinol 300mg; Ditropan 2.5mg; Folic
Acid 5mg; Omeprazole 20mg; Paracetamol 500mg, Quetiapine 25mg; Senna 7.4mg
for approximately 3 months on the covert route, now taking medicines
orally.

 

               Resident ‘C’ – Omeprazole 20mg; Levothyroxine 50mcg,
Aspirin 75mg; Amlodipine 5mg; Calcichew 1.25g; Alendronic Acid 70mg;
Paracetamol Suspension 250/5ml

 

               Resident ‘D’ – Ramipril 5mg; Ferrous Sulphate 200mg,
Metoclopramide 10mg; Omeprazole 20mg.

 

               Resident ‘E’ – Bisoprolol 5mg; Levothyroxine 50mcg; Aspirin
75mg; Omeprazole 20mg; Mirtazapine 15mg; Senna Oral 7.5mg/5ml; Paracetamol
Suspension 250/5ml.

 

               Resident ‘F’ – Lorazepam 0.5mg

 

               Resident ‘G’ – Isosorbide Mononitrate 20mg

 

               Resident ‘H’ – Tamsulosin 400mg

 

               Resident ‘I’ – Lorazepam 1mg

 

               Resident ‘J’ – Ovcivate Lutein

 

               Resident ‘K’ – Clopidogrel 75mgs; Bisoprolol 1.25mgs

               Resident ‘L’ – Levothyroxine 75mgs

 

               Resident ‘M’ – Clopidogrel 75mgs

 

Q4.         For each case as stipulated in the answers to Q1 and Q2, what
percentage consented to receiving the medication?

 

               In all cases where covert medication is administered, the
appropriate consent has been provided, either by the person themselves
where they have the capacity to do so, or by their legal welfare guardian.

 

Q5.         How many patients were given medication as a form of chemical
restraint at each of the care homes stated above?

 

               14 Residents

 

Q6.         What were the reasons given for chemical restraint in each
case?

 

               Schizoaffective Disorder

               Vascular Dementia

               Brain Metastases

               Psychosis

               Psychosis.  Lewy Body Dementia

               Psychosis.  Schizophrenia

               Psychosis.  Vascular Dementia

               Psychosis.  Paranoia

               Parkinson’s Disease
