Dear Canal & River Trust,
Please can you advise me how many actions have been taken against boaters for fly tipping along the towpath.

Can you also provide me with policies and procedures that you use to manage these, and any upcoming policy changes that are in the pipeline.

I’m persistently seeing boaters leave a temporary mooring, and leave waste behind.

Yours faithfully,
Pete Clarke

Information Request, Canal & River Trust

Dear Mr Clarke,

Thank you for contacting the Canal & River Trust with your request for information. The Trust has treated your request as a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

1.Please can you advise me how many actions have been taken against boaters for fly tipping along the towpath?
The Trust does not hold this information, The Trust acts on all reports we receive on a regional level and the Area Operations Managers will act on each case accordingly. Fly tipping is usually done when no one is around so catching the individuals responsible is very difficult.

2.Can you also provide me with policies and procedures that you use to manage these, and any upcoming policy changes that are in the pipeline?
Regarding our policy for fly tipping this is on the Canal and River Trust Website under the Reporting litter, weeds and pollution page. The Link that page is here: https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/contact-u... There currently isn’t any upcoming changes in our policy for fly tipping at this time.

3.I’m persistently seeing boaters leave a temporary mooring, and leaving waste behind?
This can be reported via any of any means of contracting us https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/contact-u... . Each report will be looked into by our Area Operations Managers individually and acted upon accordingly. our Area Operations Managers arrange removal via our Waste Management Contractors if this service is required.

If you are dissatisfied with the handling of your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review. Internal review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of this email and should be sent by email to [email address] or by post to Information Officer, Legal Department, Canal and River Trust, Aqua House, 20 Lionel Street, Birmingham, B3 1AQ. You are also able to contact the Information Commissioner by telephoning 0303 123 1113 although please note they would usually expect you to have gone through our internal review procedure before contacting them.

Kind Regards
Joshua

Dear Information Request,

So, is it fair to say that no actions have been taken against boaters for flytipping, and that there is no mention of this in their licenses, and there is no plans to change this.

I’m writing a piece for a national broadsheet on this, can you please send me the direct link to your press officer please

Yours sincerely,

Pete Clarke
