You can apply to extend your stay with your family member if you’re
already in the UK on a family visa.
If you came to the UK on a different visa, you might be able to switch to
a family visa to stay with your:

* spouse or partner
* child
* parent

If EX.1 or Gen.3.1 / Gen.3.2 of Appendix FM applies, then there is no requirement for finances or English (note that not every application for FLR(FP) meets the stringent definitions, as mentioned above).
