Dear Hartlepool Water,

Do you add flouride to our tapwater?

If so, can you tell me where you get it, how much you add, and why you add it?

Yours faithfully,

Alan Carter

Ensell Kevin,

Mr Carter

Thank you for your request.

I confirm the following:

o Hartlepool Water does not add fluoride during the water treatment
o All potable water is obtained from the Magnesian Limestone aquifer
located in South East Durham and is highly mineralised.
o The source waters contain natural levels of fluoride such that the
final blend of water supplied to customers contains fluoride to the
value of 0.9 to 1.3mg/l as F
o All water supplied complies with the requirements of the water quality
regulations in respect of fluoride.
o The source of water in Hartlepool has changed little over many

I trust that this will assist.

Yours sincerely

Kevin J Ensell

you may wish to request clarification on what form(s) of fluoride is in the water, what do they classify as "naturally occurring" fluoride and what do they base "natural levels" upon. Anglian Water services have already admitted in previous FOI requests that they do purchase and administer a hexafluorosilicic acid to the water supplies in areas, but are very evasive in providing any data on the substance (see: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/s... )
