Dear Mr Duff

Our ref: FOI-0854-2021

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 18
August 2020 asking for information about buses.

Your request has been considered under the requirements of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and our information access policy. I can confirm that
we do hold some of the information you require. You asked:

Could you please supply me with a list of all the vehicles that have been
allocated to Arriva London’s Brixton Garage in other words a Fleet list.

The most up to date data we hold on the bus fleet is published at
[1]https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/publication....
We do not hold lists of operator vehicles at their respective garages.

Recently the route 319 has had its contract renewed in 2020 this contract
outlines new buses are to be allocated to Brixton, can you confirm the
make/model of this new bus, how many will be received and by what date
these new buses will be introduced also has the current COVID situation
delayed the rollout of these new buses?

We can confirm that the contract for route 319 has been re-awarded to
Arriva London South and that this anticipates 22 double-deck electric
buses coming into service from autumn 2021. The choice of vehicle model
that meets the contract requirements of the bus route is a fleet
management choice for the successful operator.

Could you provide a copy of the 2020 renewal contract for route 319; all
info regarding price can be discarded?

As and when our tenders are finalised, these are supplied to the following
[2]https://www.gov.uk/contracts-finder so that they can be published
alongside other public contracts. As we do not run this website, we can’t
provide details of the publication timescale.

Can you also confirm if London buses owns any buses of the Volvo Plaxton
President Type identical to those previously used on the route 140 and
182.If so what routes are these buses currently operating on and what is
the  expected withdrawal date for these buses.

Apart from New Routemasters and a small number of developmental vehicles,
we do not own buses. We do not own any Volvo Plaxton President vehicles.

In addition to the above please answer the following:

Are bus drivers allowed to reverse on a public highway unaided?

Bus drivers have to follow all the normal rules applying to driving on the
public highway, and where necessary and appropriate can reverse and
undertake U turns, taking into account the size of their vehicle and the
road conditions.

Are bus drivers allowed to make a U-Turn on a public highway unaided?

Please see response to the previous question.

Does London buses provide drivers with a means of reporting unsafe Garage
practices if through what channels?

Yes, they can report issues through staff-manager forums at their garages,
through their staff representative or through an independent organisation
called CIRAS (see [3]https://www.ciras.org.uk/about-us/).

If this is not the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate
to contact me.

Please note, the Government has announced a series of measures to tackle
the coronavirus. It is essential for London, that we continue to provide a
safe transport network for essential journeys.

In current circumstances, we are not able to answer FOI requests readily
and we ask that you please do not make a request to us at present.
