Dear Mr Stevens

With regard to your request for information please see the attached.

I confirm that Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service does hold the registration numbers of cars but we are refusing the Freedom of Information request under section 24(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 which provides that information is exempt if exemption is required for the purposes of safeguarding national security. The rationale for the refusal is as follows:

•The cars are unmarked and may be used by officers for personal use.
•As an emergency service we have must ensure that our own operational information is appropriately protected

I trust this deals with your request.

Full details of our freedom of information requests are available to view on our website through the following link:

http://www.derbys-fire.gov.uk/about-us-o...

If you are not satisfied with this response or you wish to complain about any aspect of the handling of your request, then you should contact our Information Officer, Louise Taylor (details below). If informal resolution is not possible and you are still dissatisfied then you may apply for an independent internal review by our Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive. Please note that any request for an internal review must be made within 40 working days of the date on which the attempt to reach informal resolution has come to an end.

If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may take your complaint to the Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act. Please note that the Information Commissioner will not investigate your case until our internal review process has been completed. Further details of the role and powers of the Information Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner’s website, http://www.ico.gov.uk

Yours sincerely

Jessica Daft
