Brian Mottershead, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service

Dear Sir,

Further to your recent request made under the terms of the Freedom of
Information Act for details of the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service
(NWFRS) vehicle fleet, I can confirm that NWFRS holds the information you
have requested; however, this information is exempt under Section 24
(National Security) of the Freedom of Information Act and is, therefore,
being withheld.

Members of the public will appreciate that as an emergency service, NWFRS
must ensure that information relating details of their appliances or other
sensitive operational intelligence is appropriately protected. Releasing
certain information regarding the fleet may have wider implications that
must be considered i.e. disclosing certain information may prejudice the
ability of NWFRS to maintain its own and national security. The Service
believes that maintaining security and ensuring public safety in a
national and local context takes precedence over releasing certain
information.

NWFRS accepts that this type of information is of interest to members of
the public but believe that it is not in the greater public good to
release detailed fleet information. As a result, NWFRS has decided that
the public interest is better served by not disclosing this information.

In taking this decision NWFRS has taken note of the Centre for Protecting
the National Infrastructure guidance on disclosure of sensitive
information, which states that national security is paramount and should
be considered carefully in any government or commercial decision to
release or disseminate information to the public.

Information on the fire stations within the NWFRS area of responsibility
and the types of vehicles based at those stations can be found on the
NWFRS web site here -

If this information is exempt then why has London Fire Brigade published theirs (https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/l...

Also what is stopping someone in theory sitting outside each fire station and noting details that way?

I would have thought London is more of a risk than North Wales is.
