Fire Responder reporting requirements and issues raised related to London road closures
Dear London Fire Commissioner (London Fire Brigade),
I would like to make an FOI request for the following pieces of information:
1. What case management/reporting system is used by your responder teams since September 2020 to date
2. What categories of reporting within your system are responders formally required to submit in terms of problems responding (such as equipment and personnel failures)?
3. What and how have you asked responders to report with regard to delays relating to restricted low traffic network (LTNs) or the Covid related experimental road measures recently introduced across London?
4. Please supply details of these reported incidents (3 above) since September 2020 to date In Lambeth and Southwark
5. How frequently do you summarise the status of FOIs to Senior Management and who received it during 2020 and 2021?
If not all information is available immediately, please treat questions individually
Yours faithfully,
SP Snee
Dear Sp
Thank you for your request.
This will be considered under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and we
will respond as soon as we are able. Please note, given the current
situation with the Coronavirus, this may be outside of the normal,
expected timeframe for a FOI response (20 working days).
Thank you for your patience,
with kind regards
Michelle Essiet

Dear SP Snee,
Thank you for your request for information about the London Fire Brigade.
1. All English fire services are required to supply data to the Home Office to the standard described by the Incident Recording System (https://www.gov.uk/government/statistica...). The LFB use a bespoke system (which we call IMS) to collect and supply this data.
2. Crews are only expected to supply a reason for delay (if any) if the first responding vehicle takes longer than 6 minutes to arrive. They can choose between the following descriptions which they selected via a dropdown box.
- Arrival time incorrect on incident log
- At drills when mobilised
- Address incomplete/wrong
- Appliance/Equipment defect
- Arrived but held up - Other reason
- Traffic calming measures
- Traffic, roadworks, etc
- Weather conditions
- Mob/Radio problems when mobilised
- On outside duty when mobilised
3. If crews were delayed because of a traffic management scheme, they would likely report this as "Traffic calming measures"
4. Information about the fire engines response times (and any delay) is published as part of our Open Data here (https://data.london.gov.uk/dataset/londo...). This includes data for Lambeth and Southwark.
5. Statistics on the number of requests received and responded to are reported quarterly to the Commissioners Board. The most recent 'corporate digest' with this information is published here (https://data.london.gov.uk/dataset/lfb-f...).
I hope you find this information useful.
Regards
Andy
