Financial Report 2011-12

Waiting for an internal review by Campion Hall, Oxford of their handling of this request.

Dear Campion Hall, Oxford,

Please treat this as a freedom of information request. Could I please have a copy of the Financial Statement of the
PPH for 2011-12, ideally in PDF format, or a hyperlink to it.

I note that in the past you have refused freedom of information requests, and would kindly point you to the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Schedule 1, Part 4, Clause 53 (1)

"(The Governing body of)...
b) a university receiving financial support under section 65 of the [1992 c. 13.] Further and Higher Education Act 1992, (...)

e) any college, school, hall or other institution of a university which falls within paragraph (b)."

In Sub-section 2 (d), it is specified that "(in sub-section 1) in paragraph (e) “college” includes any institution in the nature of a college."

Campion Hall is an institution in the nature of a college, or in any case a hall of the University of Oxford and thus falls under the FoIA notwithstanding its possible affiliations with other charitable institutions. Therefore I will be required to elevate things if you refuse this request on grounds that you are exempt from the FoIA 2000 unless you can demonstrate that your affiliation with the Trustees for Roman Catholic Purposes overrides your affiliation with the University of Oxford with regards to FoI requests.

Yours faithfully,

James Carter

Campion Hall is a wholly-owned operation of Trustees for Roman Catholic
Purposes. Noting your reference to the FoI Act 2000, the Governing Body of
the Hall consists of the Jesuit Provincial, who is Chairman of the
Trustees, and his Council. The accounts of TRCP, as a registered charity,
are already in the public arena, available via the Charity Commission
website.

With best wishes

Brendan Callaghan SJ

Dear Brendan Callaghan,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I'm attempting to find the financial statement of the hall specifically, rather than the overall accounts of the TRCP. Would it be possible to get hold of these?

Yours sincerely,

James Carter

The requirements on Campion Hall regarding financial reporting are met by the publication of the TRCP accounts via the Charity Commission website.

Dear Brendan Callaghan,

Whilst I am aware that the publication of the overall TRCP accounts satisfies your obligation to the Charity Commission, Campion Hall still remains subject to the Freedom of Information Act 2000 due to Schedule 1, Part 4, Clause 53 (1) of said act that can be seen in my initial e-mail. Therefore I request again that you respond to my freedom of information request in due course or I will launch a complaint to the Information Commissioner.

Yours sincerely,

James Carter
