EIRRequests, United Utilities Water PLC

Dear Mr Owen

Thank you for your request for information about any present or future intent to introduce filtered waste water using graphene and or electrolysis into the potable water supply of Halton Merseyside which we received on 12 November 2020.

Your request has been considered under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.

I can confirm that United Utilities currently has no plans to introduce filtered or treated waste water into potable water supplies in any area. Treated waste water effluent is returned to the environment. United Utilities is not aware of any plans to use graphene technology or electrolysis in water or waste water treatment. United Utilities continually reviews all available technologies, including new and innovative treatment processes, to achieve the best value for money for our customers and comply with all regulatory requirements.

Should you consider that we have not adequately complied with our obligations under EIR, I am also obliged to inform you that you have the right to ask us to carry out an internal review of our response. This can be done by writing to David Hannon Head of Legal, United Utilities, Legal Department, Grasmere House First Floor, Lingley Mere Business Park, Lingley Green Avenue, Great Sankey, Warrington, WA5 3LP. Alternatively, you may find it easier to e-mail us directly on [United Utilities request email] , quoting the above reference, and your review request will be forwarded on to Mr Hannon.

Any request for an internal review should explain why you wish a review to be carried out, and should be made within 40 working days of receipt of this letter, and we will reply within 40 working days of receipt. If you are not satisfied with the result of the review, you then have the right to make a formal complaint to the Information Commissioner.

Finally, I would be grateful if you would kindly acknowledge receipt of this e-mail.

Yours sincerely

Ms A Paul
