Figures for number of disabled moved out of borough
Dear Greenwich Borough Council,
I would like to know the number of adults and children with disabilities - whether physical disabilities, severe learning difficulties or anything else that is defined as a disability - who have been moved out of borough to cheaper accommodation, whether that be temporary or permanent.
I would like to know the figures for children and adults in aggregate and also separately.
Please could you provide this information for the ten full years from and including 2005 to 2014.
Yours faithfully,
Brendan Scott

Dear Mr Scott

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request, shown below.
Our response is as follows:

Local authorities have a statutory duty to provide interim accommodation
to those homeless applicants who meet the required criteria. We would make
placements based on availability rather than cost. If we make a placement
out of the borough to a household with a family member who has a
disability we will make arrangements to move that household back in to the
borough and close to their support network at the earliest opportunity.
We do not routinely record the number of households who have a disabled
family member and are placed out of the borough in interim accommodation
and therefore cannot provide a figure for the last ten years.
If you have any queries about this correspondence, please contact me,
quoting the reference number above.
If you are not satisfied with our response to your request, you can ask
for an Internal Review. Internal review requests should be submitted
within two months of the date of receipt of the response to your original
request. If you wish to do this, please contact us, setting out why you
are dissatisfied.
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the Internal Review, you may
apply directly to the Information Commissioner (ICO) for a decision.
Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the
Internal Review procedure provided by the Council. The Information
Commissioner can be contacted at: Information Commissioner's Office,
Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
