Dear Mr Headley,
Thank you for your e-mail of 20 October, in which you asked for up to date figures on
the number of Nominal (Criminal) Records currently held on the Police National
Computer (PNC). Your request has been handled as a request for information under
the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
I confirm that the number of nominal records held on the PNC is 11,559,157 (data
extracted on 1 November 2014) of which 9,973,566(data extracted on 1 October) are
criminal records.
In keeping with the Freedom of Information Act, we assume that all information can
be released to the public unless it is exempt. In line with normal practice we are
therefore releasing the information which you requested via the Home Office
website.
I hope that this information meets your requirements. I would like to assure you that
we have provided you with all relevant information that the Home Office holds.
