Dear Mr McCarthy

I write in response to your Freedom of Information request dated 2^nd July
concerning female genital mutilation. You specifically asked:

Q1. How many cases of female genital mutilation are estimated to have
taken place, per year, since 2003?

Q2. How many cases of FGM were reported to the police, per year since
2003?

We are unable to supply you with estimates as this is not recorded
information.

In 2009 we implemented a FGM flag within our Incident and Crime Recording
System. Since then we have recorded 33 cases.  However these are not all
clear cases of offences, but there is a concern of FGM in all reports.

2009 2
2010 13
2011 6
2012 4
2013 8

Q3. How many convictions for FGM have there been, per year, since 2003?

There have been no convictions for FGM in Avon and Somerset.

Yours sincerely

J Lovell
