request-1126049-
4 June 2024
xxxxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.xxx
Dear M Kelly,
Thank you for your email of 1 May 2024 requesting the following information:
“Could you please provide data on the number of female infanteers and Royal Armoured
Corps (RAC) soldiers separately who have left the Army after the minimum commitment of 4 years
through submitting notice to terminate from 2018 to 2024. If the numbers are too low for individuals
to remain anonymous please provide the %.
Could you please advise how many (or what % as above) female Infanteers and RAC
soldiers separately have been medically discharged from 2018 to 2024.
I am interested in data for those females whose main trade is infantry or crewman - as
opposed to any attached arms.
I am treating your correspondence as a request for information under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 (FOIA).
A search for the information has now been completed within the Ministry of Defence, and I can
confirm that information in scope of your request is held and has been provided below.
Some information requested falls entirely under Section 44 (prohibitions on disclosure). Section 44
has been applied to that information in order to comply with The Pre-release Access to Official
Statistics Order 2008.
Under Section 16 of the Act (Advice and Assistance) you may find it helpful to note that the data
provided is a subset of the bi-annual diversity statistics, accessible on GOV.uk and at the below
link. The data which would cover up to 01 May 2024 as requested cannot be provided until these
Official Statistics are released.
1. Army Regular Trade Trained Female Other Rank Voluntary outflow and Medical
Outflow from the Infantry, 1 January 2018 – 31 December 2023
There were circa 10 Army Regular Trade Trained Female Other Ranks who voluntarily
outflowed from the Infantry during the time period.
There were fewer than 5 Army Regular Trade Trained Female Other Ranks who outflowed
due to medical reasons from the Infantry during the time period.
2. Army Regular Trade Trained Female Other Rank Voluntary Outflow and Medical
Outflow from the Royal Armoured Corps, 1 January 2018 – 31 December 2023
There were fewer than 5 Army Regular Trade Trained Female Other Ranks who voluntarily
outflowed from the Royal Armoured Corps during the time period.
There were fewer than 5 Army Regular Trade Trained Female Other Ranks who outflowed due
to medical reasons from the Royal Armoured Corps during the time period.
Notes/Caveats:
1. The Figures are for the Trade Trained Regular Army only and therefore exclude Gurkhas,
Full Time Reserve Service, Mobilised Reserves, Army Reserve and all other Reserves, but
includes those personnel that have transferred from GURTAM to UKTAP.
2. Other Ranks serving in Senior Soldier Continuity Posts are identified as such, regardless of
late Arm/Service, and are therefore excluded from the above figures.
3. Figures at point 2 are for the Royal Armoured Corps only and do not include personnel in
the Household Cavalry.
4. Figures for voluntary outflow only include personnel who have been serving for a minimum
of 4 years. In addition to the above figures, there were a small number of personnel (less
than 5) who voluntarily outflowed from the Infantry and Royal Armoured Corps before
completing 4 years of service. They have not been included in the above figures.
5. Historically, Ground Close Combat (GCC) roles consisted only of Male personnel. Female
personnel were permitted to join Regular Army Household Cavalry/Royal Armoured Corps
from July 2016, and Regular Army Infantry roles from the 25 October 2018 for transfers and
1 April 2019 for new recruits.
6. The data has been rounded to the nearest 5 to limit disclosure and ensure confidentiality.

Please note that the Information Commissioner will not normally investigate your case until the
MOD internal review process has been completed. Further details of the role and powers of the
