Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request the following information relating to the council's policy on combating female genital mutilation (FGM):

1. Does the council currently have a strategy in place specifically to train teachers, other educational professionals, healthcare practitioners, social services and children’s social care workers in dealing with suspected cases of FGM? If so, what is this strategy?

2. How many, if any, FGM awareness training days or training programmes for teachers, other educational professionals, healthcare practitioners, social services and children’s social care workers took place within the years 2010/11 ?

3. How many, if any, FGM awareness training days or training programmes for teachers, other educational professionals, healthcare practitioners and children’s social care workers are currently planned for the future?

4. What steps has the council taken to reduce FGM (actual or risk) as per article #4 serious crime “Thurrock Safety Guidelines Partnership” http://www.thurrock.gov.uk/safety/pdf/co...
What plans does the council have to implement and/or circulate these guidelines in the future?

5. The amount spent specifically on training educational professionals and healthcare practitioners in FGM awareness in the 2010/11 financial year.

6. The amount allocated specifically to training educational professionals and healthcare practitioners in FGM awareness for the 2011/12 financial year.

7. Are there any cases within the councils borough where actual FGM has taken place. Please supply statistics over the last 5 years, if any, of FGM taken place in the UK and/or the child taken out of the UK for FGM

8. Are there any cases within the council’s borough where risk of FGM has been brought to the Councils remit, by either parents, or professionals? (Within the last 5 years and on-going cases) If so what is the council’s policy on safeguarding the children. Within this question I refer to either risk of FGM happening in the UK or taken abroad.

9. What measures will be taken by the council against any person actively promoting FGM on the following basis a) FGM actually carried out in UK or outside UK, and / or b) risk of FGM being carried out in UK or outside UK
