Dear Mr Ahmed

TfL Ref: 2559-1819

Thank you for your request received by Transport for London (TfL) on 2
January 2019 asking for information about fatigue research – bus drivers.

Your request has been considered in accordance with the requirements of
the Freedom of Information Act and our information access policy.  I can
confirm that we hold the information you require.  You asked:

Can you please tell us who is conducting fatigue research on London Bus
Drivers.

Who will see the results of the survey be shared with?

When will the survey come to an end?

Will anyone be making any recommendations?

Will the survey results be passed to the transport committee of London
Assembly?

Will the survey results be passed to Unite the Union? If so who?

Please be aware that, under the FOI Act, we do not have to answer a
request if it would require the creation of new information or the
provision of a judgement, explanation, advice or opinion that was not
already recorded at the time of the request.  On this basis, only
questions 1 and 3 of your request are requests for recorded information
falling under the FOI Act 2000. Our reply is therefore as follows:

TfL’s bus driver fatigue study is being carried out by Loughborough
University in partnership with the Swedish National Road Safety Institute.
The research includes interviews and focus groups with drivers and
managers, a driver survey and on-road tests. Unite the Union have been
consulted during the project and agreed to help promote and distribute the
questionnaire to their members.

The fieldwork will be completed by the end of January and the researchers
will then analyse the data in order to make relevant and effective
recommendations.

Once the research is complete the final report will be published on TfL’s
website.

If this is not the information you are looking for,  please do not
hesitate to contact me.

Please see the attached information sheet for details of your right to
appeal as well as information on copyright and what to do if you would
like to re-use any of the information we have disclosed.

Yours sincerely
