Fate of asbestos downpipes on former and existing council owned properties in Sturry, Kent

The request was partially successful.

Dear East Kent Housing limited,

Please treat the following as a Freedom of Information Request.

In Sturry, Kent, roads such as Woodside Road have several council
houses and former council houses on them.

From inspection it appears that existing council houses have had the
concretized asbestos downpipes replaced with (presumably PVC) downpipes.

1) Can you confirm that this work was carried out?

2) If so, what was the cost of this replacement per house and who was
contracted for the work?

3) What risk did the existing asbestos downpipes pose to health?

4) What steps were taken to ensure that asbestos dust was not spread
into neighbouring properties during the work?

Yours faithfully,

Ashley Mills

2) Which houses on Woodside Road, Sturry do you maintain?
3) Since when have you maintained these properties?

Yours sincerely,

Dear EKH FOI,

Thank you for the information regarding properties on Woodside road that you maintain.

Going back to the issue of the asbestos down-pipes, or waste pipes. The reason I asked the question is because I live in a privately owned property and my waste pipe is asbestos cement, but I have observed that some of the council properties waste pipes are plastic. Which leads me to speculate that the council properties had the asbestos cement removed. Can you please answer the following FOI:

1. Which of the properties listed in your last response have down-pipes or waste pipes made of asbestos cement / concretised asbestos?

Yours sincerely,

Ashley Mills
