Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000
(FOIA) for the following information:

 

 

“Please provide the following information:

 

The number of fatalities on the national rail network recorded during 2010
by category such as; crime, non-suspicious, accidental.”

 

 

In accordance with Section 1 of FOIA I can confirm that British Transport
Police (BTP) holds the information requested and this is shown below.

 

The numbers of fatalities on the national rail network recorded during
2010 are as follows:

 

361 Non-suspicious fatalities

4 crime-related fatalities

3 work-related deaths

 

Total fatalities = 368.

 

Please note this also includes London Underground and also includes
incidents where there was no disruption to railways e.g. hanging,
electrocutions, drugs overdoses etc.

Requesting an internal review

British Transport Police accept that sometimes an applicant may not agree
with the decision made about their Freedom of Information request. If this
is the case there is a procedure to allow the decision to be reviewed.
