Freedom of Information, Lancashire County Council

Dear Mr Bird,

Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000

Further to your email dated 27^th October, in which you request the
disclosure of information under the provisions of the above Act, we are
now in a position to respond.

Please could you confirm how much somebody should be left with for living
expenses, if they are eligible for help from your authority. The dwp state
income support (71.70) plus 25% as a minimum. Is this correct?

In answer to the question raised –

-        Although not stated we have assumed that the request relates to
Care at Home when it refers to "help from your authority"

-        In terms of "how much somebody should be left with for living
expenses.." this will depend on many factors relating to the customers
personal circumstances such as age, level of disability and family
status.

-        The request appears to relate to a single Income Support claimant
25 years old or over

-        The Income Support figure quoted is 2013/14 rates – the current
figure is £72.40

-        The "plus 25%" referred to is actually what is known as a
"buffer" and represents the sum that can be added to the Protected Income
(PI) when calculating the weekly charge for care

-        So an example using the above scenario –

o   Income                                                 Income Support
               £72.40

o   PI                                                            Single
25yrs +                £72.40 + 25% buffer (£18.10)       = £ 90.50

o   Net Disposable Income (NDI)
                                                      £72.40 less £90.50
= -£18.10 therefore there is no assessed weekly
charge for Care at Home

I trust that our response is to your satisfaction.

Your request will now be closed as of this date.

Yours sincerely

Mr A Martin
