Failure/delay in recording of sex crimes
Dear Police Scotland,
Please can you provide data on how many sexual offence crimes were failed to be recorded by Police Scotland within the 72 hour time frame from 2012-2015.
Can you please also tell me how many sexual crimes were delayed in being recorded within the 72 hour frame from 2012-2015 by Police Scotland.
Yours faithfully,
Sarah Young

Looking for some clarification on your request.
'failed to be recorded', don't quite understand this? If the crime was reported then it would be recorded. We wouldn't have any cases to search if they were failed to be reported to the police.
Regarding the 'delay' in recording; is this from the date reported to the police or the date the incident occurred?
You mention 72 hours, is there a reason for this timeframe? Purely to assist with your request.
Any assistance much appreciated. Please be aware that the 20 working day timeframe will start once I've received clarification.
Regards
Stuart

Dear Stirling FOI,
Regarding the delay in recording, could I request the information from the date the incident was reported to the police please.
Regarding the failure to record crimes, please take a look at this article from the bureau of investigative journalism on Police in England/Wales where they explain how sexual crimes were not recorded as sexual crimes at all when they should have been. I have quoted a part of the article below for you:
"Reports on specific forces published yesterday, following an interim report released by HMIC in May, identified a pattern of behaviour in which officers delay recording of sexual offence claims and in some cases fail to record them as crimes at all. This means the complaints are never properly investigated.Just 61% of sexual offence incidents that should have been recorded as crimes by the Metropolitan Police were classified as such and “clear lines of enquiry” about alleged rapes were not actively pursued".

So could I request how many sexual crimes were failed to be recorded correctly at first by Police Scotland from 2012-2015 please?
And lastly, regarding the 72 hours, It says online that crimes should be recorded by Police Scotland within 72 hours of the circumstances becoming known to the police, so please can you tell me how many sexual crimes were delayed in being recorded beyond the 72 hour time frame from 2012-2015.
Yours sincerely,
Sarah Young
