'Failure to respond to calls from the public' HMICFRCS 'cause of concern' 30/9/21

The request was successful.

Dear Greater Manchester Police,

HMICFRCS has issued you with an accelerated 'cause of concern' regarding a number of failings:

'PEEL: Greater Manchester Police cause of concern – Responding to vulnerable people HMICFRCS'

Published on: 30 September 2021

https://www.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/...

My request concerns the criticisms made under the heading:

'Failure to respond to calls from the public' HMICFRCS

HMICFRCS state:

'The force doesn’t have a sufficiently effective system in place to respond to calls from the public, regularly relying on overtime and diverting officers from other important tasks. The force doesn’t fully and properly understand the demand it faces so it can’t always effectively allocate the resources it needs to respond to these calls.

The high workload is significantly adversely affecting control room staff. Sickness is already high and staff feel stressed and unsupported. It’s difficult for the force to identify wellbeing problems early as no regular one-to-one conversations are set up with staff and there are insufficiently effective arrangements in place to assess, manage and develop staff performance.'

Request:

For each month of this financial year (April 21-September 21) please provide the amount you spent on overtime in relation to your system for handling calls from the public referred to in the cause for concern issued by HMICFRCS.

Yours faithfully,

J Roberts

Greater Manchester Police

Good Afternoon

I apologise for the delays.

Regarding the below FOI request the relevant area of the force has contacted me requesting clarification.

Can you confirm who is in scope for this report? There is a number of roles within GMP that take calls from the public. Please can you confirm if you are aiming your request at Call Handling Unit or GMP as a whole?

Please also confirm do you still require the information for this Freedom of Information request?

Thanks

Kind Regards
