Dear Ms Stevens

Request for Information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FoI)

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request received by the Trust on
19 November 2015 and acknowledged on 23 November 2015. Please accept my
sincere apologies for the delay in responding to your request.

For information, the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is one of
the largest and busiest NHS teaching Trusts in the country incorporating
the General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital and Royal Infirmary.  The three
hospitals are staffed by almost 11,000 people serving around one million
people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, and a further two to
three million people from the rest of the UK who come to us for the
specialist services we provide.  During 2014/15 Leicester’s Hospitals
treated 1,229,500 (3,368 patients per day) – 97 more each day than in
2013/14.

In your request, you asked for the following information, I can confirm
that the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust holds information
covered by your FOI request. Further to consultation with colleagues in
the Trust’s Emergency and Specialist Medicine Clinical Management Group
(CMG) and Cancer, Haematology, Urology, Gastroenterology and General
Surgery CMG and including a review of case notes, the Trust’s response is
set out below following your request.

1.      How many patients have had a failed discharge on ward 42 at
Leicester Royal Infirmary in the past 6 calendar months?

Between June and November 2015, 2 patients have been readmitted to ward 42
at the LRI within 48 hours of discharge but neither of these patients fell
within the definition of a ‘failed discharge’.

The definition the Trust is using for a failed discharge is “Failed
discharges are when a patient has been re-admitted within 48 hours of
being discharged from the hospital because sufficient measures were not
put in place”.

2. If applicable how many patients have been admitted back to the

same ward within 24 hours of discharge?

Please give statistics for the past 6 calendar months?

There has been 1 patient who has been admitted back to the same ward
within 24 hours of discharge.

I hope that this response is satisfactory and provides you with the
information requested (where available). If you require any further
assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. If you are dissatisfied
with the Trust’s response, you can contact the Director of Corporate and
Legal Affairs on Tel. No. 0116 258 8615 to request a copy of UHL’s Freedom
of Information Act complaints procedure.

We must advise you that where we have provided information we have done so
subject to the provisions of the Re-use of Public Sector Information
Regulations 2005.  Accordingly you must not re-use this information
without having the consent of the Trust.  Where the Trust is prepared to
provide its consent then it may levy a charge for doing so. Should you
wish to re-use documents provided then you must make your request in
writing stating your name and your address for correspondence together
