access to the following information:

To enable the MPS to meet your request could you please provide this
office with further information.  I provide some guidance that may assist
you more clearly describe the information you require:

* You are required to specify the information you would like. At present
your request is too broad.
* With reference to the word "technology" in your request, please
specify if you want the searches to refer to laptops or to mobile
phones.

After receiving your reply, your request will then be considered and
you will receive the information requested within the statutory

Further to our correspondence dated 22/12/2012 the MPS has not received a
response to our request for further information.  

Under Section 1, subsection 3 (a) & (b) we are not obliged to pursue with
this request unless we receive the further information required to locate
the requested information.

Section 1 (3) (a) & (b) provides that:

(3) Where a public authority-
(a) reasonably requires further information in order to identify and
locate the information requested, and
(b) has informed the applicant of that requirement,
the authority is not obliged to comply with subsection (1) unless it is
supplied with that further information.

As we have not received a response from you we will now consider this
request withdrawn.

DECISION

I have today decided to disclose the located information to you in full.  

EXTENT OF SEARCHES TO LOCATE INFORMATION

To locate the information, your request was passed to the Detective
Sergeant in charge of the Proactive Team who authorises the officers, who
know how to use the machine, to use equipment in Greenwich Borough, as we
do not have a machine.

RESULT OF SEARCHES
The information we have is for mobile phones only and the data provided
below is from June last year when boroughs started using the equipment.

50 OUTSTANDING RESULTS OR AWAITS DOWNLOAD

Data from laptops cannot be extracted by borough officers; a Bexley
officer requiring data extraction from a laptop would need to submit the
laptop to the MPS Digital and Electronics Forensic Service (DEFS) for
examination/data extraction.  Prior to the introduction of the ACESO
system (mobile phone reading equipment) mobile phones were also examined
in this way and there may be occasions where mobile phones are still sent
to DEFS for examination.
