Dear Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency,
I have purchased a car in the UK and would like to ship it to Germany. What are my required to do?
Can I just drive the car to Germany? The car still has the UK registration No. plates;

Yours faithfully,

Maurice Mulinge

DVLA Contact Centre, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency

Dear Maurice Mulinge,

Thank you for your enquiry received on 10/9/2018.
Your case reference number is 00873107.

I appreciate you taking the time to contact us regarding this matter.

It may be helpful if I explain that if you are taking your vehicle out of
the country on a permanent basis, you must notify us immediately of the
vehicle's intended export.

If you have a V5C Registration Certificate, you must notify export on
section V5C/4. The V5C/4 should be returned to:

DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1AG

You will receive a refund for any complete remaining months of your
vehicle tax by post within 6 weeks (if applicable). If you would like the
refund to be paid to an alternative address you would need to include a
covering letter with your V5C/4.

If you are paying for your tax via a Direct Debit you may wish to contact
your bank, in order to cancel the Direct Debit instruction.

It may help if I explain that once we receive the V5C, the tax will cancel
immediately. Therefore, you may wish to transport the vehicle to Germany.

The rest of your V5C must be taken with you as you may have to hand it
over to the relevant authority when the vehicle is registered abroad.

If you are not in possession of the V5C, you will need to apply for one
using an application for a registration certificate V62. Alternatively, if
there are no changes to your address details, you may telephone 0300 790
6802 for a replacement.

You should then receive your new V5C within 5 working days.

Please note, both applications will require a non-refundable fee of £25.

Once your new V5C has been received you should then send notification to
us immediately of the intended export as explained above.

Please note, the V62 application form is available to download from
www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration-certific..., or at all Post
Offices® that deal with vehicle tax

I trust this is of assistance to you.

DVLA Contact Centre, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency

Dear Maurice Mulinge,

Thank you for your enquiry received on 10/9/2018.
Your case reference number is 00873107.

We appreciate you contacting us in relation to this matter.

It may be helpful if I explain that if you are buying a vehicle and want
to export it immediately, the complete V5C Registration Certificate should
be handed to you as the new keeper. You should then fill in section 6.
Both yourself and the current keeper must sign in section 8. The V5C can
then be used to re-register the vehicle in the host country.

You must tax immediately using the V5C/2 'New keeper's details' section
before you can use the vehicle on the road to drive out of the country.
You can do this online at [1]www.gov.uk/vehicletax or by phone on 0300
1234 321.

In order to obtain a refund of vehicle tax, please write to Refunds,
Swansea, SA99 1AL explaining the circumstances.

You will receive a refund for any full paid remaining months within 6
weeks.

The current keeper (seller) will then need to notify the sale of the
vehicle, by writing to:

DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1BA

They would need to include the;

• their full name and address
• vehicle registration number
• make & model of the vehicle
• date of sale
• who the vehicle has been sold to
• brief explanation of the situation

Please note we are issuing automatic acknowledgement letters to confirm
that keepers are no longer responsible for the vehicle. If you do not
receive the confirmation letter within 4 weeks please contact us.

I trust this is of assistance to you.
