The request was successful.

Dear Department for Education,

I should be grateful if you could let me know the total amount paid out in sponsored academy grants for the academic years 2012/13 and 2013/14. I should also be grateful if you could provide me with a breakdown of how much has been paid to each academy sponsor for the two years.

Yours faithfully,

J Downs

Dear Department for Education,

Thank you for your reply. I am referring to the start-up grants awarded to sponsors when they sponsor schools.

As you will be aware, there are 3 levels to these start-up grants depending on such things as whether the sponsorship is 'fast track' or not.

https://www.gov.uk/sponsor-an-academy

The application form (downloadable herehttps://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...) makes it clear the sponsor should have a company number. This implies it is an academy trust (presumably from the DfE's approved academy list).

I should, therefore, ask you to look again for the information. I find it hard to believe the amount paid out in start-up grants and the recipients are not in an easily available format. I should be grateful, therefore, if you could let me have, free of charge, the total amount of start-up grants paid to academy trusts in the academic years 2012/13 and 2013/14 and a breakdown of how much was paid to each academy trust.

If it is not possible to break down the data for academic years because 2013/14 has only just finished and data may still be in the pipeline, I will accept data for financial years 2012/13 and 2013/14.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

J Downs
