Dear Jo Welham,

Thank you for you response. I would like to remind you that FOIs can be made under the name of an organisation (in this case, No More Exclusions), and that it is still good practice for you to consider the request if the pseudonym is obvious.

Members of the No More Exclusions research team send out requests and collect data on behalf of the movement; if you would like confirmation that a request has come from a member of our research team, please contact us and we will be more than happy to do so. You can get in touch via our contact page: https://nomoreexclusions.com/contact-us/

In the meantime, please note that we are looking for this information (total numbers, types of and reasons for exclusions, plus characteristics of pupils excluded) for *each* time period listed in the initial FOI request, not overall for 2019-20.

Please could you also make sure to state how many of each *type* of exclusion (i.e., permanent, fixed, internal) there were for each time period, and the reasons for exclusion by type, e.g. permanent = 1 x PA; fixed = 2 x DB, 1 x BU, etc.

I hope that is all clear, and thank you again for your time and cooperation.

Yours sincerely,
No More Exclusions Research Volunteer

Dear No More Exclusions,

Please see below the college’s response to your FOI request relating to
exclusions. You asked for the below information over the following
periods: September 1st 2019 – March 31st 2020, April 1st – July 31st 2020
and September 1st 2020 – Present. Due to the small numbers involved, and
the increased risk therefore of individuals being identifiable, numbers
have been provided in total from September 2019 to the present. Where
there are fewer than 5 in any group asked about in the request, the answer
given is less than 5 in order to protect individual

Total number of exclusions, including fixed-term, permanent and internal
exclusions (for example internal isolation units/isolation rooms)
Due to the way our records are kept, what we have been able to provide is
numbers relating to students having been withdrawn for disciplinary
reasons. Almost all of our students are over 16, so we do not have short
term exclusions or isolation rooms. The total number of withdrawals of
this nature we have on record since September 2019 is 62.
Of this total:

- Number of boys 30

- Number of girls 27

- Number of non-binary pupils less than 5

- Number of pupils in receipt of free school meals 9

- Number of pupils in each year group, respectively

Dear Jo Welham,

Thank you for your response, and thorough explanations - that makes sense and we appreciate your obligation to protect individuals from being identified where the numbers are less than 5.

Could you just clarify for me that 'withdrawal' means or is equivalent to 'permanent exclusion', in that the student is removed from the roll permanently for disciplinary reasons?

Also, could you provide the reasons for these exclusions, e.g. 'physical assault/violence against another student/adult', 'drugs or alcohol related', 'sexual misconduct', 'racist abuse', etc.?

Everything else is clear from what you've sent so, once I have your answers to these final queries, I can mark this request as complete.

Thanks again for your time and ongoing cooperation - much appreciated.

Yours sincerely,
