Exams Supervision/Invigilators/SEN Pupils

Education Authority, Northern Ireland did not have the information requested.

Arnold Bartlett

Dear Education Authority, Northern Ireland,

1. Can you please advise as to how many classroom assistants are removed from their classes and or their Statemented Pupils, to which they are assigned, either to supervise or invigilate during Exams in schools.
2. Also how many classroom assistants spend most of their time assisting in learning support rooms, assisted literacy/numeracy learning, with other children with additional learning needs, leaving their assigned statemented pupils in class.
3. How many classroom assistants are paid invigilators, removed from their special needs pupils during invigilation times.
4. Is the parents/guardians of the special needs pupils informed when an assigned classroom assistant is invigilating.
5. Whilst paid for invigilating, does a classroom assistant retain their pay as a classroom assistant.
6. Are 'temporary' classroom assistants' required to have attained the same level of education and qualification standards as permanent classroom assistants. If not, what are the levels acceptable for 'temporary' staff.
In relation to the above questions, Belfast area, West Belfast will suffice.

Yours faithfully,

Arnold Bartlett

Dear Mark Bratton,

May I please request an Internal Review or Appeal in the absence of any answers provided by EA dated 13 May 2016.

All answers provided merely state 'The EA would not permit....etc' or 'The EA does not hold this information', or 'Schools should not be re allocating provision for children with a statement, to other pupils etc.

The response provided by EA does not in any shape of form attempt to address the FoI submission.

In particular, and in order to assist. the questions/submission/Review could be applicable to post-primary college, Falls Road.

I will also be copying all correspondence in relation to this matter to the Education Minister's Office.

Is the EA not the governing body/authority for CCMSs?
If the EA is not responsible for providing proper and adequate answers to Freedom of Information submissions, please advise who is. I would hope that the EA would not refer this responsibility back to any College, School, or Principal, however, deal with the matter as the Education Authority for Schools.

I would appreciate if you could acknowledge receipt of this request upon receipt.

Yours sincerely,

Arnold Bartlett

Dear Mr Bratton,

Perhaps you can advise as to when I shall receive the requested information, (a full response to the original foi submitted on 7 April,) from an Internal Review, and not just quote, forward or attach 'policies', however, what actually IS IN practice, (taking place) on this subject in Post Primary College (mainly boys) school, Falls Road.

Thanking you for full and complete answers, which have been checked out with such school/college.

Also by what means are the parents/guardians of SEN pupils advised when their contracted Classroom Assistant/s are removed for other duties, such as supervision at exams, supporting a learning support room, or clerical and administrative assistance to the SENCO.

Yours faithfully

Arnold Bartlett
