Dear Sea Fish Industry Authority,
Many EU-owned fishing vessels have re-registered in the UK, becoming administratively British. This enables such vessels to fish, legally, from UK quota's, a consequence of which is that UK fishermen have to suffer quotas and species, reduced by the proportion taken by the re-registered vessels.
In the past, as much as 40% of Scottish annual quotas have been lost to these vessels; I have been unable to source the data for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Do plans exist for the rescinding of UK registration of these vessels after December 31st 2020?
If such a plan does not exist, kindly explain the justification for allowing the re-registrations to continue.

William Smith.

Dear Sea Fish Industry Authority,
I wish to inform you that I am awaiting a response to my Freedom Of Information Request; "EU owned Fishing Vessels Re-registered in the United Kingdom" By law, the Authority should have responded promptly with slight delay owing to the impact of corona virus. The Authority will fully understand the implications of EU27 vessels still having their previous right to fish from UK waters given their past impact on the UK fishing community; fish stocks, sustainability, quotas, income, unemployment, vessel mortgage repayments and, consequentially, family and business life.
I would request that justified focus be given to this FOI request.

Yours faithfully,

William Smith

Michael Dick, Sea Fish Industry Authority
