Freedom Of Info, Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council

Dear [Name Removed]

Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000

In response to your request for information received at this office on 11
March 2022, please see the Council’s response below.

You requested
How much EU funding have you received? Please provide annual
figures.

Our response
The UK left the EU on 31 January 2020 with a transition period
until 31 January 2021.

Following the date of leaving, the UK did not receive new awards of
funding but continued to get any EU funding that had   already been
awarded.

Bolton Council has not received any grant directly as part of the European
Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and European Social Fund (ESF) 2014-2020
Programmes in England.  Following the creation of the Greater Manchester
Combined Authority (GMCA) from April 2016 the GMCA took Intermediate Body
status for ERDF and ESF funding.  European funding support has been
received either through The Department for Communities and Local
Government or the Department for Work and Pensions, the “Managing
Authorities”, or the Greater Manchester Combined Authority an
“Intermediate body”.

Whilst Bolton Council hasn’t applied directly for European Funding it has
received funding indirectly as a Delivery Partner to GMCA or the
Government Departments

ERDF funding under a GMCA led bid for “Build a Business in GM Libraries”
where we are one of the delivery partners within Greater Manchester.
Bolton Council allocation £106,812 over three years from January 2021.
Allocated funding from Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities
under an ERDF funded “Welcome Back Fund” formerly known as “Reopening High
Streets Safely” this was a central government initiative allocating
amounts across all English councils. Bolton allocation £253,140 2020/21
£307,140 2021/22

The full amount of allocations above have not yet been received by  the
Council.

Bolton also undertakes work assisting people in training with Skills for
Employment.  Bolton Council’s role is as a sub-contractor to an external
contractor.   The Council is paid a fee for work undertaken as a
sub-contractor and does not receive a grant.  However, the funding for
these initiatives through Greater Manchester Programmes may have received
a level of European funding.

Should you have any queries, please contact  [1][email address]

Yours sincerely
